While developing HOMEWORLD Relic created early versions of the kushan fleet which weren't used later. Some of these appear as cameos in the single-player campaign, the rest can be inserted as adornment in multiplayer missions. Cause only small adjustments are necessary to substitute playable ships with them, they are often used while the first modding experiments. Three years ago i did the same and cause it was very much fun to me i've brought all old derelict versions into game. This was accompanied by the story of a new kiith.
Due to the fact that kiiths are genuin kushan their ships were replaced. These outtakes wouldn't make a complete substitution of the kushan ships, therefore more vessels - especially non-combat ships - had to be added to complete the fleet. Most of these were derived from the junk, that also appears in the game. To fill the remaining gaps some new models were created with just a 3D-viewer, text-editor and a simple tool. That's still recognisable (e.g. motherships, destroyers)...
At a later date i had enough models of turanic design to give the derelicts a new counterpart. Many of the turanic models may be known cause they appeared in two other MODS: Turanic Prowlers and Turanics vs. Kadeshi. Finally the two pirate races were replaced too and the GUI was altered to match a new but still HOMEWORLD-like feeling.
